Election Result

The election result in Beverley and Holderness was:-

Conservative  (G Stuart) 25,063   47.1 %(+6.4%)
Craig Dobson (Lib Dem) 12,076   22.7% (+3.6%)
Labour (I. Saunders)      11,224   21.1% (-14.5%
BNP                                  2,080     3.9%  (+3.9%)
UKIP                                 1,845     3.5%  (-1.6%)
Green                                  686     1.3%  (+1.3%)
Independent                       225     0.4% (+0.4%)

Craig increased our vote by 2,498 since the last election and put us into second place.  This is an especially creditable result, as Craig was not selected as our candidate until February this year.  The BNP, UKIP, Green and Independent candidates lost their deposits.

Nationally, the position is bizarre.  We have increased our share of the vote from 2005 - but we have fewer seats in parliament. On the other hand, even though the Lib Dems have only 57 out of 650 seats, Nick Clegg can effectively decide who becomes Prime Minister.
